At Ouray School you will see many people curled up on a coach reading a book. There is a variety of author and books. Most of the reading you will see is on the orange couch in the middle of the Trojan Commons, though some readers choose the library. Some people are reading for knowledge, but most are reading for fun or to relieve stress.

Many students in Ouray spend their free time in the winter skiing and snowboarding. Some people ski at the local ski hill in Ouray that has a tow rope, others ski at Telluride, and some brave souls backcountry ski on mountains like Red.

On Saturday, April 8, Bluecorn Cafe in Montrose was packed full of Ouray residents, including many Ouray School teachers and students, while the band You Knew Me When was playing.

Today, the Creative Writing class noticed the change of seasons.

Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome to Cabaret! With four short weeks of rehearsals, this flashy, heavy, and thought-provoking musical was performed March 22, 23, and 24 by Ouray and Ridgway high and middle school students in collaboration with Weehawken Creative Arts. The show was vital in paving the way for a stronger theater scene at our school.

In the seats to my right six high school students lean forward, eyes glued on the emotional scene. To my left, I see the same thing. The whole audience is rapt in this shared experience.

The creative writing class took a walk today in the brisk April sunshine, and then composed these poems. Enjoy!

The High School Drama Club performed two one-act plays over the weekend of February 25th: “A Marriage Proposal” by Anton Chekhov, and “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell. The process of performing and putting the show together seemed to delight the actors, crew, and audience.

Weehawken dance has been around for about 14 years. Some time ago Weehawken’s performances took place in the Ouray Wright Opera House; however, now they take place in the Montrose Pavilion. Many students participate in Weehawken dance, not just from Ouray but also from Ridgway, Silverton, Montrose, and Delta.

The creative writing class is at it again: a walk in new snow, and then a little bit of poetry writing. We hope you enjoy.
