SENIOR PROFILE: Ina Dow

by Pallen McArdle

“Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it” is a quote from Anne of Green Gables that Ina Dow lives by. Ina Jayne Dow is the daughter of Niki Kop and Eric Dow and older sister to Teya Dow.

She loves all mediums of art: painting, playing guitar, singing, making jewelry, listening to music ranging from Alternative Rock / Emo to Indie Pop. “I love how creative Ina is and ready to try all kinds of art,” said art teacher Mrs. Melissa Demuth with a smile on her face.

In addition to loving art, Ina values time with her close family, friends, and animals. She enjoys being exposed to different personalities and “has so much compassion for everyone and everything in her life,” according to classmate Aynsleigh Wood.

Teya admires her older sister and “know[s] she will be by my side through anything.” Teya’s birth, when Ina was 4 ½ years old, is one of the most sublime moments of Ina’s life. Ina “really really really wanted a baby sister,” she said, and was “ecstatic when Teya was born.”

During her time at Ouray School, Ina fondly remembers the “Pink Paint Incident” while making her class’s 2021 homecoming poster. One of her classmates grabbed a paint bottle and inadvertently squirted “bright pink” paint all over Ina’s shirt, mask, and hair. Still, Ina claimed that “it wasn’t entirely [his] fault” and that “it was definitely an accident.”

Ina cherishes the “sense of community at school” because it “is unique and unlike any other school.” She is currently participating in Sources of Strength, Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, and Drama Club. Mrs. Chase, Ina’s advisor, honor society chaperone, and French teacher, remarks that Ina is an “incredibly funny person” with “layers and layers of intricacy, beauty, and care.”

When Ina leaves to go to Western University in the fall of 2022, she will remember her friends, classmates, and teachers at Ouray School. She plans to major in art education, especially after gaining confidence from her internship with Mrs. Melissa as a teacher’s aide for elementary school this year.
