SENIOR PROFILE: Kaden Nelson

by Aynsleigh Wood

Kaden Nelson is one of the kindest and most caring people this reporter has ever met and, from the way others describe him, I am not the only one to think so. Peers describe him as honest, admirable, smart, and good-hearted.
Science teacher Ms. Lakin said he is “like a big brother to all his classmates” and fellow senior Roger Blake called him “a great guy: honestly, he gets along with everybody.” He is always there when someone needs a helping hand and is always ready to crack a joke or a smile.
Kaden was born in Olathe, Kansas on September 21 to parents Kenneth and Evelyn Nelson. Kaden has four younger siblings, Kortlan (10th), Keaton (8th), Estes (2nd), and Everlea (2nd). Kaden said that his dad inspires him because “even though he is also my basketball coach, the stuff he teaches on the court and just, in general, has really helped through life.”
Many of you may recognize Kaden Nelson for his performance and participation in high school basketball, track and field, and cross country. Kaden has gone to state for all four years in cross country, his freshman year in track and field, and his sophomore year in basketball.
Kaden lives his life with the philosophy to “live life as you want it, don’t change it because someone wants you to,” and his dream is to become a concept artist for EA Gaming. He plans to attend the University of Utah this coming fall for graphic design.
What Kaden says makes him the happiest is when he makes “good art and [other] people also like it.” He also says that the perfect day for him is when it is raining with thunder and lightning and he can stay inside all day under a blanket, just playing APEX with his friends.
When he leaves Ouray, Kaden says, he will miss the mountains and his classmates the most (other than his family, of course). One of his favorite memories is when he was given a jazz solo in band during his sophomore year and got to play his trombone for all in attendance.
Kaden can not wait to go off and find new adventures in college, but he plans to use all of the valuable lessons he has learned while growing up in Ouray.
