What to Watch: K-Drama

by Sakoya Jensen

Korean drama, otherwise known as K-drama, is very entertaining and binge-worthy. The plotlines are one of the reasons Korean dramas are so good. The plot lines can be lighthearted or serious, depending on what you want to watch, making any K-drama worthwhile.

Korean dramas are produced in South Korea and can provide a myriad of entertainment options, such as romantic comedies, action shows, and fiction series. Surprisingly, there are several Korean drama streaming options available, including Netflix, Hulu, and others. Korean dramas can also be a fantastic way to learn more about South Korea because of the culture, which is very different from that of the United States.

Korean dramas first emerged in my life when I was 12 years old, and I immediately fell in love with them. Because I watch almost everything on Netflix, it was like a world I'd never seen before, and Korean drama was such a culture shock. I found that once I started watching I could not get enough.

Horror is a good genre for Korean dramas since it offers new tropes that change the narrative. You know how in classic American films, there's always that one blond who trips over nothing or goes to investigate the disturbance? The Korean horror film business lacks blondes.

I also believe that Korean dramas offer excellent romantic comedies. This is due to the drama and wholesomeness that they bring to the tales: the males are far more delicate and kind. The directors add more light into the stories as well, giving an elegant vibe to wholesome Korean drama.

K-drama is incredible because it gives so much depth to the tales with the directors and actors. When I think of Korean dramas, I think of narrative twists, fantastic filming and directing, and amazing performers who will have tremendous skill and fit the role perfectly. Trust me: try it out!
